Autumn Tree Craft For Kids
Inspired by the wonderful transformation of trees as they change colors during this season, I created this super easy Fall tree craft.
If you’re looking for a fall-themed activity for young learners, this is a great choice for the classroom or at-home learning.
It is a fun, low-prep activity that lets kids bring their own colorful tree to life using crayons, colorful papers, and a touch of creativity.
This time, I decided to include visual instructions for a couple of reasons:
- Crafts don’t have to be complex to be enjoyable for kids.
- The use of color-coded instructions and clear visuals makes it easier for children to understand what they need to do without relying heavily on reading skills.
- Visual instructions allow children to work more autonomously. They can refer back to the guide easily, reducing their reliance on adults for help and boosting their confidence in completing tasks on their own.
- For children with learning disabilities or language barriers, visual instructions can provide a more accessible way to understand and complete the activity.
- Combining visual instructions and written text serves visual and kinesthetic learners. It supports children who benefit from seeing examples and engaging hands-on.
As you can see, this activity is super accessible to many different kinds of learners.
It is also a great way to boost creativity and imagination while helping develop fine motor skills.
And it can be therapeutic and relaxing!
There’s something about sitting down with a simple craft that can be so calming for kids.
Whether they’re quietly painting or tearing up paper to create leaves, it’s a chance for them to unwind.

How To Make The Fall Tree Craft
- Download and print the Decorate a Tree template.
- Cut the sheet in half through the dashed line.
- Help your kids go through the instructions.
Read the whole thing and then let them work on each step.
- Follow the first step and color the tree trunk brown.
- Follow steps 2 to 4 and cut red, orange, and yellow paper into small pieces.
If your kids cannot use scissors yet, you can make them tear the paper.
- Finalize with step 5 and glue the colored paper onto the tree.
You can use this chance to talk about fall and what your kids have seen outdoors. Then, they can get creative and draw the things they have seen─ maybe little apples or squirrels hiding in the branches.
