Fall is hands down, my favorite time of the year. Nothing beats the pleasing weather that allows you to go outside and actually enjoy it! What a better opportunity to explore the outdoors with your kids.
I created this Fall Scavenger Hunt to take with us on a walk around the neighborhood. It includes items that can be easily found almost everywhere, such as leaves and pumpkins.
With the little ones in mind, I designed this scavenger hunt with pictures, but I encourage anyone in the family to join in the search. This way, we teach kids the value of teamwork while exercising both body and mind.
How to Use the Fall Scavenger Hunt
If you have never tried a scavenger hunt before, don’t worry! There is nothing you have to do other than printing the hunt sheet available at the end of this post.
If you’d like to reuse it in the future, don’t forget to laminate it or put it into a page protector.
Then, head outside to search the items, and every time you find one, check it off the list.
You can make it a competition or just have fun discovering all the objects on the list.
We prefer the second option, so we don’t stress over checking off all the items in one outing.
Kids can take this scavenger hunt with them every time they go outside, even better if you are visiting special places like an Apple Orchard or a Pumpkin Patch!
You can bring a basket and pick up the objects that you find, or take pictures with them.
Either way, don’t forget to take a moment to admire each item and ask your kids a couple of questions about it, such as:
- How does it look like?
- How does it smell?
- Can you touch it? Is it soft or hard?
- Do you like it? Why?
- Did you find more than one? Can you count them?
By asking all these questions, we help children expand their curiosity, ability to reason, and creativity. All while improving their vocabulary and thinking abilities.

Great activity for my wheelchair bound 4 year old. Thank you! She loved it and so did big sister, mom, and dad!
I’m so happy to read that, Abby! Happy Fall!
Great ideas!!
Thanks! I’m glad you can enjoy them with your kids!
I did this scavenger hunt with my healthcare client who is in a wheelchair. I added a few more things that were outside. We had the best time with this 1 hr activity. Thank you again. A good memory also.
